Replace Missing Teeth in Folsom, CA

Mature CoupleWhen you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge conceals the gap and helps to preserve your oral health. When you don’t replace missing teeth, they could shift towards the open spot and cause issues with alignment and bone loss. Additionally, missing teeth affect the way that you eat and speak. Cosmetically, many people feel too self-conscious to smile when they have a noticeable gap after losing teeth.

Different Types of Bridges

Just like the bridges you see every day while driving that connects permanent structures, a dental bridge provides the support to hold a tooth replacement in its permanent new position. Dr. Gregory Borrowdale connects the bridge to the teeth on each side of the gap. Once the procedure is complete, the bridge closes the gap left by your missing teeth. It performs the same basic functions as your other teeth. We typically use foundations constructed from gold, metal, or porcelain that has been fused to the foundation.

Dental bridges come in three basic types. These include:

  • Cantilever Bridges: Dr. Borrowdale chooses this option when only one adjacent tooth is available to act as support for the bridge.
  • Traditional Bridges: This involves Dr. Borrowdale creating a crown for the implant or tooth that goes on either side of the tooth that is missing. These bridges are the most common type and are made from metal or porcelain fused to ceramics.
